Is Egg Protein Powder better than whey?
“Egg Protein Powder” versus “Whey Protein Powder” is a hotly debated topic among some athletes. While the existing figures suggest whey has an advantage over egg, there are those that will swear by the improved performance of egg protein powder. That’s not surprising when you consider that egg protein has been the favored source for athletes and bodybuilders for the majority of the last century.
Egg protein powder is a slower digesting source to whey, which allows for a longer period of protein synthesis in the body. However it has a slightly lower biological value of 88 as compared to whey at around 100. This means that your body cant absorb as much of the amino acids contained in the protein.
Egg protein powder also has the advantage in that its naturally lactose free which makes it a great alternative for those that are lactose intolerant or allergic to milk products.
In the end there is no conclusive winner between the two and your decision largely depends on your individual requirements and goals.
