Lactase

Ingredient Type: Digestive enzyme
Safe

Lactase is an enzyme that is naturally produced by the body to break down lactose, a sugar found in milk and dairy products. Lactase breaks lactose down into its two constituent sugars, glucose and galactose, which can be easily absorbed by the body.

In protein powders, lactase may be added as a digestive aid to help individuals who have difficulty digesting lactose. This can be especially helpful for individuals with lactose intolerance, a condition in which the body does not produce enough lactase to break down lactose properly. By adding lactase to protein powders, individuals with lactose intolerance can more easily digest and absorb the protein without experiencing digestive discomfort.

Lactase is generally considered safe when consumed in recommended amounts.
