Raw has just one single ingredient, Whey Protein Concentrate. It’s not just any whey, Raw uses only grass-fed whey that is processed using enzymes rather than acids.
Interestingly this concentrate comes with a high protein purity of 84% which is not far off an isolate which is around 90% pure. This makes it a quality natural source of whey protein that packs a decent punch.
At 84% protein purity, this product should provide excellent results. We even recommend this whey concentrate for elite athletes, where we would normally not recommend anything less than a whey isolate.
However, if you’re lactose intolerant this may not be the best choice. As this product is the less processed form of whey concentrate, it still contains a reasonable level of lactose. In other products with whey concentrate, we would usually expect to see the enzyme lactase added to help digest the lactose content.
This is an unflavored raw product so we didn’t expect the flavor to be anything impressive on its own, but actually we were surprised.
It mixed quickly into milk with virtually no detectable flavor or texture and with no bitterness as we might have expected with a raw isolate. In water, it was a little bit like drinking watered-down light milk. That’s pretty impressive and Raw Grass-Fed should provide an excellent creamy taste when mixed with your own homemade flavors.
Raw comes in at an extremely reasonable price for what is virtually an isolate, and a quality natural product at that!
Generally, we would expect a natural product such as this to come at a premium price, but this product comes cheaper than most mid-range whey protein powders based on the protein content per serve.
If naturally sourced and processed products are important to you, then this product is definitely worth your consideration. Its high protein content from grass-fed sourced whey is processed to provide a fully undenatured product. For the price, this offers excellent value for money. Our only concern would be for those that are lactose intolerant, whom would be better served by using at least a whey isolate or plant-based product with no lactose.
