Each scoop of Premium Gold delivers 24grams of protein, 4grams of carbs and 2grams of fat. The protein matrix in this product includes Whey Peptides (Hydrolyzed Whey), Whey Isolate and Whey Protein Concentrate.
Unfortunately, we don’t know exactly what portions they’re included in. The way they are listed makes this very unclear, even though we would normally expect to see the largest ingredient by volume listed first. We suspect the large majority of this product is actually the cheaper form of whey concentrate. This would make sense as the total digestible protein content of this product comes up quite low at about 70% when we would expect around 80% or higher if this product was mainly made with Whey Isolate.
This also would explain the carb and fat content which is a bit higher than we would expect for a product that is mainly whey isolate.
For our Double Rich Chocolate flavor, they have added Cocoa, Natural and Artificial Flavors, and Salt as a flavor enhancer. A gum blend is also included which helps provide a nice creamy texture. This includes Cellulose Gum, Xanthan Gum, and Carrageenan. Lastly, the sweeteners included are Sucralose and Acesulfame Potassium, which are ingredients we prefer to avoid.
Mix 1 scoop with 6 oz. of cold water or skim milk in a glass or shaker cup. Use between major meals and before and after exercise. Read the entire label before use and follow directions provided.
This product we believe to be a mid-level protein and not so impressive as all the hype might lead you to believe. That doesn’t mean it will not provide excellent results, but we would prefer a straight whey protein isolate to the protein blend used in this product. This would provide more digestible protein without as much lactose content.
It’s worth noting that this product does include a reasonable level of lactose due to its whey concentrate ingredient, but there are no enzymes to help with the lactose digestion. This may cause some bloating or gas for those with an intolerance.
We tried the Double Rich Chocolate and it mixed up a treat in low-fat milk with a very rich flavor and smooth creamy texture.
With water, it was not so impressive and rather bland, but then it was hard to judge after the great taste in milk.
This product is reasonably cheap and we do think it offers reasonable value, but we don’t think it’s quite as effective as its boasting may have you believe.
This is a mid-level protein with a slightly lower than mid-level price.
Unless you suffer from lactose intolerance, this product offers a decent protein matrix at a reasonable price, and with a great taste. Having said that, it’s hard to know just how much of the product is whey peptides or isolate and we would be more comfortable with a product that includes only whey isolate or is more transparent about exactly what goes into the protein blend. At 70% protein content, we think this is a good mid-level product that offers good value. With the great taste, this product may be especially good for beginners in using protein supplements.
