We check out Less Naked Whey in this review, a more palatable version of the unflavored and additive-free Naked Whey. This product is not just Artificial Free, but Grass-Fed, Non-GMO and Hormone Free. But, is there a compromise on taste and performance?
Less Naked Whey provides 25 grams of protein with 7 grams of net carbs and 3 grams of fat per serve. This is delivered by a very short list of ingredients, hence the “naked” name.
The primary ingredient in this powder is Whey Protein Concentrate which is sourced from grass-fed cows and offers just about the most natural whey you will find. Having said that, this is only a whey concentrate which is the cheapest and least refined protein form. That’s not always a bad thing as it contains the highest levels of additional dairy micronutrients.
The “less naked” part of this product is due to the addition of flavor. While Naked’s flagship products are pure protein sources, this product offers a more palatable option, without the need to add your own flavor.
For the chocolate, they have added Organic Coconut Sugar and Organic Cacao Powder and that’s all.
We would be concerned about the lactose content for those that are intolerant. Normally in a less sparse ingredient list, we would hope to see an added enzyme such, as lactase to help digest it.
DIRECTIONS: Since Less Naked Whey contains only three premium ingredients, it's best to use a blender when mixing. Add two rounded scoops of Less Naked Whey to 6 - 10 oz of water or your favorite beverage. If using a shaker bottle, shake for 25 - 30 seconds. When using a blender, blend for 20 - 30 seconds.
Dress up your Less Naked Whey with different flavored beverages such as coconut water and almond milk, or blend with your favorite fruits, vegetables, and superfoods.
Given the less processed form of whey concentrate, we are not surprised by the higher levels of carbs.
This doesn’t make for a particularly lean protein powder, but it does come with extra micronutrients that are normally filtered out of more processed protein. However keep in mind that this product also includes more lactose, so the lactose intolerant may want to skip this product.
This product took some vigorous shaking to mix well, which isn’t surprising. Less Naked is short on ingredients and while most products include lecithin which helps with mixability, this is not included in this product.
On the plus side, the chocolate taste was pretty good, especially in milk. The flavor was dark chocolate, not bitter, but not overly sweet either. This was a refreshing change from the often super-sweet options on the market.
This product is mid-price ranged. Given the limited tech ingredients, what you’re paying for is the naturally sourced grass-fed product of the highest quality.
That is to be expected, as naturally sourced products often cost considerably more.
This product is a compromise between performance and the natural sourcing of protein without the addition of artificial ingredients. This is still a decent protein source that will provide results, and if 100% natural is important to you then this is an excellent option.
