Is Vegan Protein Powder better than whey?
Each type of protein powder has its unique benefits, however vegan protein powder is not as bioavailable to your body as whey. This means that amino acids are less readily absorbed by the body, as they are from whey protein. This is not all bad news though, as correct use of vegan protein powders should achieve similar gains in lean muscle strength. In fact vegan protein powder tends to also include additional health benefits not found in whey, and without some of the downfalls of whey such as cholesterol, fat and lactose.
Vegan protein tends to be higher in fiber, minerals and antioxidants. While whey may be the most efficient protein source, don’t discount a more holistic approach with plant-based vegan proteins.
