Is Casein Protein Powder safe during pregnancy?
Yes casein protein powder can be an excellent choice during pregnancy as it supplies a slow release of essential amino acids over up to 7 hours. This allows for a constant supply of amino acids for your bodies needs as well as those of your developing child. Only those that suffer from lactose intolerance should avoid this proteins use as it generally contains a fair amount of lactose.
While the casein protein component is safe, you should check the included additives. Some protein products also include ingredients such as caffeine or saccharin, which is an artificial sweetener that is not recommended during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.
If you intend to supplement your protein intake during pregnancy, you should consult with your OBGYN or health professional.
