Ghost has got to be the funkiest packaged product on the market, so how does it stand up for serious use? We take a look in our latest review of Ghost Whey.
First off we love that Ghost fully informs us about what goes into their protein matrix. Most companies leave those details out, which makes it hard to know just how much of the higher quality isolate and hydro actually goes into it. Thankfully Ghost gives us an exact breakdown with 14.53 grams of Whey Protein Isolate, 13.16 grams of Whey Protein Concentrate and 2.98 grams of Hydrolyzed Whey Protein Isolate.
This is a pretty good balance that should provide all the benefits of each protein form. The hydrolyzed whey gives you a very rapidly digesting protein that has been pre-digested so your body can absorb amino acids immediately after a workout. Isolate offers the best value and efficiency in delivering the bulk of protein. And lastly, the whey concentrate includes Phosopholipids and Conjugated Linoleic Acid, which are not found in the purer form of whey isolate. These perform important roles in new muscle cell growth as well as improved immune function and in reducing fat deposits in the body.
Sunflower Lecithin has also been used for the protein isolate and concentrate to improve mixability.
The coffee ice cream taste has been created using Natural and Artificial Flavor, 100% Columbian Coffee and Salt as a flavor enhancer.
A nice addition is the Ghost Enzyme blend which includes Proteases, Bromelain and Lactase. These should help with the digestion of protein and lactose.
Cellulose Gum and Xanthan Gum have been added as a thickener to give the product a creamy texture when mixed. Lastly, Sucralose and Acesulfame Potassium have been added as sweeteners.
Mix each scoop (serving) of Ghost Whey with 5-6oz of water or beverage of choice. Vary the amount of liquid to taste.
Ghost Whey is versatile AF. Use it in smoothies, oats, protein ice cream, pancakes, and baked goods.
This powder has an excellent blend of all 3 types of whey in excellent proportion to give you the best advantages of each.
This protein makes a great post-workout choice with 2.89grams of the hydrolyzed isolate to help you rapidly absorb amino acids straight away when you need it.
We couldn’t pass up the chance to try a Coffee Ice Cream flavor, as we don’t often come across coffee flavors.
While not an overly strong coffee taste, it was very pleasant and creamy, even in water. Actually we thought it tasted best in either water or low-fat milk.
This product is not cheap, in fact, it’s quite expensive. So if budget is a concern, then it’s probably not the product for you.
However, this is a solid and effective product with a nice enzyme blend and some tasty flavors. That said, we really think this product is a little more expensive than it should be.
Okay, it’s by no means cheap, however, it’s actually a great product and if it was released in a larger value tub it would certainly be a very competitive product. It does also contain the artificial sweeteners we generally prefer to avoid.
For us, the winning points are its effective protein matrix, included digestive enzymes and great flavor. So if money is not a big concern and your priority is results and flavor, then its well worth a try.
