Cellucor is most well known for its popular C4 line of pre-workout supplements, but its COR-Performance Whey is well worth consideration too. We decided to take a closer look at our review here. On first impressions, it looks to be a quality product with a 25gram hit of whey protein with a tiny 2 grams of net carbs and just 1.5grams of fat per serve.
This product is a blend of whey protein isolate and whey protein concentrate. The isolate form helps keep the carb and fat content down and is more rapidly absorbed by the body. This includes 5.25grams of naturally occurring BCAAs in each serve.
Add to that cocoa powder as well as natural and artificial flavors for taste. Cellulose gum and xanthan gum have been added to give the product a creamier texture, particularly when mixed with water. Salt has been added as a flavor enhancer, but we think 170mg of salt is a bit much. Protease is also added to the product as a digestive enzyme which helps break down the protein to make is more rapidly digested. Lactase is another included enzyme that helps the body break down the lactose content and helps prevent symptoms of intolerance. Lastly, acesulfame potassium and sucralose have been added as artificial sweeteners.
Mix each serving (2 scoops) of COR-Performance Whey Protein in 5-6 fl. oz. of cold water or any beverage of choice one to two times daily.
Vary the amount of liquid to achieve desired consistency and flavor. Cellucor COR-Performance Whey Protein can be used before workouts, after workouts, or as quick and fit snack anytime. Drink 1-4 servings daily, or as need to satisfy your personal protein intake requirements.
This is a solid product with a protein matrix that has next to no carbs or fat.
In addition, the added enzymes should help with the digestion of any lactose content as well as speeding up the digestion and absorption of the contained amino acids.
This product tastes great and its molten chocolate flavor reminded me of the richness of a molten chocolate pudding.
Its texture was very smooth and creamy, though a little less so when we tried it with water. It did, however, retain the rich chocolate flavor in water though.
This product mixes great without any grittiness in either milk or water. This was a little surprising as the product doesn’t include any of the agents I would usually expect to see to make mixing easier.
For mid-level general-purpose protein powder, the value is exceptional!
We did a quick comparison with Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard and it actually comes out a little better value and for what we believe is a slightly superior product.
We liked this product and its no surprise to us that COR-performance has been gaining in popularity. It tastes great, is decently effective and priced well to compete as a mid-ranged powder for lean muscle development, athletes and weight loss. This product is ideally suited at the top of general-purpose protein powders and we think it even tops Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard whey by a fraction.
