BioTrust Low Carb delivers 24 grams of protein in a 40 gram serving with 4 grams of net carbs and 2.5 grams of fat. While that’s not especially high carbs and fat, it’s by no means low in our option. The protein content is delivered in a matrix of Micellar Casein, Whey Protein Isolate, Milk Protein Concentrate, and Whey Protein Concentrate. As Casein is the largest portion of this product, we think this product is designed to be a weight loss powder more than anything else.
Inulin has been added as a soluble fiber that also stimulated good bacteria growth in the large intestine.
To this, they have added Cocoa and Natural Flavors for a chocolaty taste. Sea Salt is added as a flavor enhancer. Sunflower creamer, Sunflower Lecithin, Xantham Gum, Gum Arabic, and Guar Gum are used as thickeners and to provide a creamy texture.
For a sweetener, they have included Swerve which is a sweetener that includes Erythritol, Oligosaccharides and Natural Flavors. Erythritol is a sugar alcohol that is about 60-70% as sweet as sugar. Oligosaccharides are a naturally occurring soluble fiber that promotes good bacteria growth in the large intestine.
This brings us to the last ingredient which is listed as ProHydrolase. Unfortunately, there is little we can say about this proprietary ingredient. Basically it’s a digestive enzyme blend that is claimed to help boost how effectively you can absorb amino acids from protein. This is somewhat backed up by a study that shows that fewer amino acids are excreted from the body from protein intake when this product is used.

We think this product is best used as a weight loss powder. It’s clear from its high casein content and fiber that it would provide a fuller feeling for longer than a zero-carb protein isolate. To its credit, the protein matrix should do this job well.
Directions: Add 2 scoops to 8 ounces of water or milk and mix until smooth. Use a shaker bottle or blender for best results.
Consume immediately. The addition of liquid allows ProHydrolase to begin hydrolyzing (breaking down) the protein causing the finished beverage to become bitter over time.
Taste, Texture & Mixability
This powder mixed very well in both water and milk but was quite thick when mixed with milk. As far as flavor goes, we were quite disappointed with the chocolate. It was quite chalky in texture and very bland in both milk and water.
BioTrust is not cheap, in fact, it’s the most expensive whey protein supplement we have seen to date. This product is only 60% pure protein and with 4 grams of net carbs, we don’t think it’s terribly low carb. Is the inclusion of ProHydrolase going to add enough value to the product to make up for its lack of protein and higher carb content? We don’t think the value is quite there with this product.
On face value, this is an extremely expensive protein supplement that is really more suitable for weight loss. While it may be somewhat effective for other purposes, there are better products on the market for bulking up and training at lower prices.
If you are looking to lose weight there are also less expensive products worth considering and many of which we have reviewed. If however, you had had trouble with snacking between meals, this product may give you a fuller feeling for longer, but with a taste, you will want to improve with some additional flavor of your own.
