When we first saw PlantFusion’s Complete Protein powder we were really excited to give it a try. This is not your average vegan protein and a quick look at the ingredients told us we were in for a product that’s just a little bit clever. This protein powder delivers 21 grams of protein with only 2 grams of carbs per 30gram scoop. Wait, you say! But that’s what we would expect from a whey powder. Yes, the protein content is certainly very impressive!
This product is clever because it comes from an alliance forged between two guys out of New Jersey that are passionate about nutritional innovation. PlantFusion is committed to using only the easiest to digest and nutrition-dense plant sources while providing the most hypoallergenic products available.
So let’s take a look at how well this 100% plant-sourced product stacks up against other powders!
One 30 gram scoop includes 21 grams of protein, 2 grams of carbs and just 3 grams of fat. That’s pretty low on fat content which we expected but very low on the carb content which was a surprise for a plant-based protein. What is really surprising is just how much protein content this 30gram scoop contains! Its certainly at levels we would expect from a whey isolate powder which makes it a great option for vegans.
The protein component of this product is made up of a blend of Pea Protein Isolate, Artichoke Protein, Organic Sprouted Amaranth Powder and Organic Sprouted Quinoa Powder. They have also added some branch chain amino acids including L-Isoleucine, L-Leucine, L-Valine, and L-Glutamine. All of this together provides an excellent amino acid profile to meet your lean muscle development needs.
In addition to all of this protein, they have also provided their own enzyme blend. This is a helpful additive that should help with the digestive process and aid in amino acid absorption which can be lower from plant-based products. Their blend includes Bromelain and Alpha Galactosidase.
This brings us to the flavor and sweeteners in the product. Some of these not only add to the taste and sweetness of the product but are natural and offer some pretty exciting health benefits. The first we will mention is Lucuma Powder which is made of a fruit from Peru that is abundant in beta-carotene, zinc, iron, calcium, vitamin B3 and guess what, protein! This sweet additive has a caramel flavor which adds to the creamy taste of this product. This fruit has been shown to support blood sugar levels and improve cardiovascular health. Another added ingredient and a favorite of ours is Luo Han Guo Extract. We’ve been using this useful fruit in tea form for many years for colds and flu as it has been shown to provide respiratory relief as it works as an expectorant and antitussive for lung congestion. This Chinese fruit has been shown to have a multitude of health benefits including promoting weight loss and its anti-inflammatory properties which make it ideal for gym junkies. Of course it’s also exceedingly sweet and adds to the earthy flavor of this product. Yacon Powder is also added and provides both fiber and antioxidants. Stevia is added as a sweetener. Silica and Guar Gum Powder is used as a stabilizer and probably aids with the products mixability. Both of course also have properties that are useful to your body. Guar Gum helps with blood sugar levels after eating and Silica helps with connective tissue regeneration.
Have we mentioned this product is clever? Every component of this product appears to have been carefully selected. Even when an ingredient has been selected for a practical purpose such as for mixability, it also provides a nutritional benefit.
We also noted that this product does not come with the warnings that it has been manufactured with equipment that may have been used to process various products that often cause allergies. This is because PlantFusion uses its own equipment which is only used to produce their vegan products with an emphasis on providing hypoallergenic products. So this would be the perfect choice if you are looking to keep away from anything which you might be allergic to.
Add 1 scoop to 10-12 oz. of chilled water or beverage of your choice in a shaker cup or blender. Mix for about 5 seconds.
Complete Protein has a great protein content at around 70% with very few carbs or fats for a vegan protein.
This is a great product that could be used for a variety of purposes including lean muscle development, improved athletic stamina, and endurance, as well as weight loss. If you’re looking for a good all-rounder, this protein is definitely worth consideration.
We tried the Creamy Vanilla Bean flavor which was quite sweet and a very earthy vanilla flavor, almost caramel. We really liked it and thought it was one of the better flavor vegan products on the market.
Mixability with this product scored very well. It’s such a fine powder and mixed so much better than other plant protein products we have tried. This along with the flavor provided an excellent smooth texture.
Ok, so this is a mid-range priced Vegan protein, but we don’t think there is anything mid-ranged about this product apart from its price.
It’s not the cheapest vegan product you will find, but it certainly offers exceptional quality and effectiveness for a very reasonable price.
We loved this product! While the taste was not perfect and it didn’t quite match the expectations we might have of a whey isolate, it got pretty darn close. Considering this powder is vegan and all-natural, this is a great accomplishment.
What really won us over on this product was the ingredient line-up. We can’t help but be impressed by the clever combination of natural ingredients that complement one another and deliver a protein punch that exceeded our expectations. This product is perfect for vegans, have allergies or just love to go all-natural. It offers good value for money and is high on our list of recommendations.
If however, you are looking for a 100% organic product you may like to look at Orgain’s Organic Protein, which offers similar value and an improved taste and texture. Though we believe that PlantFusions product is a little more protein effective.
